Labor Day is just around the corner. Kids have started back to school. Backpacks have replaced beach towels as another summer draws to an end.
This has been a spectacular Chicago summer! Blue skies, sunshine, strings of perfect 70-something temperatures. “Like San Diego” we keep hearing people say.
The good news is that there’s still another month of boating season on Lake Michigan. And you better believe that a September afternoon…. relaxing on a private yacht taking in Chicago’s breathtaking skyline…. is pretty wonderful.
So If one of those “meant to do’s” that you never got around to was to book a yacht charter, you’ll be happy to know there’s still a little time before season officially ends. You just might be able to squeeze in a fun family gathering, a get together with friends, or a company party before the boats go to bed for the winter.

We’ve received some Yelp! reviews that make us think they’re about another company. Especially when the feedback we’re used to getting is more like: “I cannot thank you enough for such an amazing event. It was incredible, and we intend to make it an annual party!”
Free Spirit Yacht Cruises has a large corporate clientele and many charter with us year after year. Happily a great deal of people feel their Free Spirit experience was exceptional and have shared feedback with us.
We had been cruising along….receiving praise and positive feedback from happy clients for years. And then the storm hit! Literally.
2011 was a turbulent year with economic uncertainty, crazy weather patterns (including very choppy waves) and a few unhappy yacht charter guests. But as service providers, even one unhappy customer is too much.
It’s disheartening to know that we have had people on our yacht charters who were not happy with our service. And although we know that you can’t make everyone happy all of the time, we still hate to hear it.
“It is our goal to provide an excellent experience to all of our charter guests. We extend our deepest apologies to the unhappy charter guests who had a bad experience with Free Spirit Yacht Cruises. To all who have sent us feedback, we thank you. We will evaluate your comments to build a company that serves you better.”
In light of our 2011 charter season, we have created a safety page to help ensure you have a safe and happy cruise experience.
We’re crossing our fingers as we say this. Cause we all know how tricky Chicago weather can be.
But so far, the Winter of 2011 has not been too bad. Yes, we’ve escaped a bit down in Florida….and it was lovely to be out on a boat though it wasn’t like being aboard a Free Spirit yacht on Lake Michigan. But we’re home, staying warm inside and busy getting ready for the holidays.
Speaking of holidays, we’ve got the perfect gift for family, friends and colleagues. Enough with the sox and scarves and mittens! Give something truly special this year. Something to look forward to. A gift of relaxation and fun. Yes, we’re talking gift certificates for our Merlot & Massage Cruises.
Who wouldn’t love a 2-1/2 hour cruise, relaxing on a Free Spirit luxury yacht, cruising Lake Michigan, dining on a scrumptious light buffet, drinking wonderful wine and enjoying soothing hand, foot and chair massages from Chicago’s Lincoln Park Massage Spa?
We’ve got two dates to choose from (or pick both): Tues, June 5, 2012 or Tues, June 19, 2012.
If you’ve never enjoyed one of these cruises, check out the video and see what you’re missing.

In the meantime, Happy Holidays to you and yours from all of us at Free Spirit Yacht Cruises.
And now it’s just a memory. For the most part, streets are plowed. Schools are back in session. Other than some snowed-in, plowed-in cars that may be there for a while, Chicagoans survived the big blizzard.
Have to admit it was a pretty exciting week….unless you were one of the people stuck on Lake Shore Drive.
Since Captain Joe follows Tom Skilling’s weather reports daily, he was prepared for what was to come. Huge blizzard on its way to Chicago. 25-foot waves on Lake Michigan. A good time to stay put and not drive anywhere.
I, on the other hand, was a bit skeptical. The storm wasn’t supposed to hit till 3p. Which is why I wanted to keep an appointment we had downtown at 2p…. snow or no snow. We were meeting with Goose Island about some potential partnering (for some super fun and fabulous cruises later this year –more to come in another post), and I didn’t want to cancel. Plus, we’re driving our Free Spirit Yacht truck. I wasn’t worried about getting stuck.
So we made the meeting, and then headed over to Lake Michigan to see just how bad it was. And this is what we saw at Burnham Harbor…..
Sure glad that’s over. Now we’re thinking Spring. And cruises. Only 42 days….
February 14th will be here before you know it. Yep, Valentine’s Day again. That special day when you think “Oh no. Now what?”.
Candy. Jewelry. Flowers. Lingerie. Blenders. Darn hard to keep coming up with clever new ideas to let your girl (woman, mom, mate, friend, etc.) know you care. Well we’re here to make it easy.
This year, make it a really memorable Valentine’s Day. Give your special someone (squeeze, mom, etc.) a gift certificate for a Merlot & Massage Cruise. Granted, she won’t be able to use it for a few months…. but that means months of anticipation looking forward to something fun and fabulous.
2-1/2 hours of pure bliss aboard one of our private luxury yachts, cruising Lake Michigan. Scrumptious light buffet. Wonderful wines. Sinfully soothing massages.
We ran two of these cruises last year and people raved about them. So we’re offering two dates again this season. Pick one….or both.
When the weather is cold and blustery, our thoughts turn once again to sunshine and blue skies and cruises (we’re yacht people…we’re always thinking cruises).
So we came up with a great idea for Christmas gifts this year. Something different. Unexpected. That won’t cost an arm and a leg but will still make your special someone smile.
Gift certificates. Merlot & Massage Cruise Gift Certificates.
2-1/2 hours of delightfully decadent cozy comfort on one of our private luxury yachts, cruising Lake Michigan. Scrumptious light buffet. Fabulous wines. Blissful massages.
Sounds great right now, doesn’t it? At this price, why not buy one (or two) for yourself as well. Then you have this to look forward to in five months:
What a difference from last year at this time. That’s when Joe and I ran out to buy extra blankets cause it was SO cold on the lake….even though our yachts are heated!
We dug up a picture of some of the guests on Theresa Carter’s (The Local Tourist) charter last June that she won in our drawing. You’ll see that her guests are celebrating decked out in red fleece. Yes, it was summer in Chicago! They still had a great time on her birthday cruise…. but how much nicer to be cruising Lake Michigan when the weather is warm and beautiful.
Speaking of beautiful….the forecast is looking really fabulous for cruises. Mid 70s, a few 80s and a lot of those little sun icons we love so much.
If you’ve been thinking how much fun it would be to round up a group of friends and spend three hours on a luxury yacht cruising Lake Michigan, this is the perfect time. You don’t need a large group. Our smaller yacht, the Gypsy Spirit, holds up to 50 people, the perfect size for an intimate gathering. The Free Spirit is our larger luxury yacht that can accommodate up to 120 guests. But you don’t need that size group to book a cruise.
And you don’t need a special occasion to enjoy the spectacular Chicago skyline from a yacht on Lake Michigan. Although we do lots of parties and weddings and meetings, we also do “no special reason we just love to be on a yacht” charters.
All you need is some nice weather and some friends you like to be with. We’ll take care of the menu and drinks and make sure you and your friends are happy campers sailors.
Our Saturdays are pretty booked (although we do get periodic cancellations so if you have a special date in mind, always give us a call). But we’ve got some Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons (talk about a super way to relax on a Sunday!) and some weekdays here and there that are open.
To see some more of our happy sailors (most out on deck without blankets!), check out our photo gallery.
Puttin’ around the Marco waterways, and all you feel is the warm sun melting your stress away, the dazzling water gently motioning underneath and an innate calmness from being around water.
And then you see “No Wake.” What does that mean? In boating terms, “slow down”. But it could certainly apply to more than your speed on the water.
Being in Marco Island (sometimes referred to as “God’s Waiting Room”) put’s a totally different perspective on life. Every day we hear pearls of wisdom like “You can’t buy time”…. “Time and tide waits for no man”….. “You can’t roller skate to heaven with your money”….and so on.
The message is always the same though the words may differ. Slow down and enjoy yourself. Take the time to note the good things in your life. Sometimes we take them for granted.
We really enjoy meeting people, being on the water, and sharing special moments. This is how we have fun. But we always find great pleasure in seeing other people slow down and relax as well. That’s why we love seeing our clients enjoying time with their friends and family when they’re on a charter with us.
Now that Summer has truly arrived in our fair city, we’re moving into Fall….or at least what should be Fall. This is the weather we were supposed to have in June. Sunny, warm and beautiful.
It’s been good news for our clients who’ve had fabulous weather for their Lake Michigan private charters. The Free Spirit and Gypsy Spirit have been busy and booked with a bunch of company outings, a tour group from Italy, a group of friends in town to see U2 and some birthday parties.
We did manage to sneak a little time in on Sunday for our own private family and friends cruise. Thanks, Captain Joe. You’re the best!
